As a nothern designer the Northern Design Festival is definitely a highlight in my calendar. This year the design festival celebrates its 10th year in promoting and supporting great design. Held in the Grade II* listed Assembly House in the heart of Newcastle this year’s show did not disappoint.
I particularly enjoyed the geometric patterned fabrics by Annabel Perin, and the painterly effects created on homewares by designers Jennifer Stafford and Susi Bellamy.
Alongside the Design Event Mart there are a number of other shows within the building including Craft Councils Hothouse which showcases 11 emerging artists working in the disciplines of jewellery, ceramics, textiles and furniture.
On the first floor is a display of NORD’S beautiful hand made rugs and Tools for Everyday Life by Northumberland University.
RIBA present innovative design ideas in their Work In Progress exhibition. Plus you can experience an amazing installation by designer David Irwin as he launches his latest lighting design the M Lamp.
This years festival also celebrates the 10th Birthday of cutting edge British furniture, lighting and interior accessory design company Deadgood who have a carefully curated selection of products for the festival.
The Northern Design Festival runs until the 25th October. To book your tickets and to find out more at www.design-event.co.uk.
